August 25 – 31
Lightning Ridge in Northern NSW was the location for our August and 5th Farm Rescue for the year. The landscape right across this region is pretty barren. One farmer we helped told us they hadn’t had rain for 88 months. That’s over 7 years with no precipitation. It’s hard to imagine but that’s the reality for farmers in this part of the country. We had 55 volunteers on this Rescue organising them into teams to work on 9 farms. We only worked on farms this Rescue as the message we got from the local council was the town was doing Ok but the farmers were really struggling. On the farms we repaired floors on 2 sharing shed, completely renovated a house so the Farmer’s family could move in, we repaired 3 decks and built steps, paving, repaired gutters, lined and plastered rooms, fencing cleaning and maintenance of water troughs and help with feeding stock and a lot more
Another great week of hard work, new friends and reconnecting with old ones. It’s amazing how much work 55 people can achieve when everyone is motivated to make a diffident for the people doing it tough in the bush. Thanks Lightning Ridge for hosting us in your town. And a special thanks you to all the Volunteers. Without you the week wouldn’t have happened.
